"3 Invaluable Strategies For Keeping Your Business Thriving"
Jean L. Serio
Your thoughts, good or bad, affect not only your business decisions but your ability to succeed. And making decisions based upon emotional or negative thoughts, is the fastest way to fail. The truth is… I'd be Lying if I said Every Entrepreneurial Day Has Been Fabulous. There will always be days when Murphy's law kicks in. And you'll wonder exactly why you started your biz in the first place. Be assured I speak from experience. But the upside is - there's much more challenge, personal and financial success and rewards to be had, starting up and running your own business. Than working for someone else. But for those days on which overwhelm seems the rule rather than the exception and you're hoping your old boss calls and offers your old job back - Here are 3 Invaluable Strategies to keep those thoughts at bay - your business alive and thriving: Subscribe to the "Failure Is Not an Option" mindset. Believe it or not, experienced entrepreneurs subscribe to that mindset. For them giving up, dropping out, accepting less are not options. Success guru, Stephen Pierce, says when he first started out, he'd yell "Stop!" when a negative thought floated into his head. Personally, I yell and carry on, for a moment or two - maybe mutter a few unprintable words. Then I remove myself from the situation, if I can. Take a walk, have coffee or some bottled water. Then return with a more open mind to my original task. Psychologists believe short outbursts, like these, help release the tension and frustration. Allowing you to regroup and move on. Neil Anderson, president of the Courage Group, says "No matter what kind of business you have, if you are not committed to the "failure is not an option" mindset you are setting yourself up for failure." To avoid that, a positive, or upbeat, mental attitude is absolutely essential. Even when things are going badly. Even more important: leave decision making to a better day or time. And don't forget. Bad days and negative thoughts don't escape the gurus. They've simply trained themselves to deal with them quicker and more effectively.
Model yourself after successful people. And avoid those who
foster negativity or are jealous. While there will always be some jealousy with other entrepreneurs, they're professionals and generally good at keeping it hidden. However, negative people can make a career of spreading gloom and doom. In fact, you may have several people in your life, right now. People who can't wait to beat down your next great idea or strategy for success. T. Harv Eker, best selling author of "Secrets of the Millionaire Mind" says, "Rich people associate with positive, successful people. Poor people associate with negative or unsuccessful people". You may know it but forgotten it. Successful people expect to succeed. They plan, write down their goals and set out to succeed. If you model yourself after them, on that occasional bad day when life is treating you badly, and the twins - problems and negativity rear their ugly heads, you can call one of your successful associates and talk it out. And you'll no doubt return refreshed, with new ideas. Remember, negative people, your competition, jealous people and others who aren't as successful as you, will hear about your success. Likely criticize and berate you; trying to bring you down to their level. Know this and avoid them. Model yourself and be inspired by the best. Speak only of success. The adage goes "Nothing succeeds like success". And it's so true. So speak only of success to friends, employees, competition and others.
Plus, with each success you have, regardless how small, you are building to it. And also building your confidence. "And", says Neil Anderson, "increased confidence breeds success". Every entrepreneur has their own problems to deal with. And every business it's own unique situations. Unfortunately when you discuss your ups and downs, or perceived failures with those who don't appreciate or understand how your business works, or the sacrifices you've made, you'll only cause them to think negatively of you. Even call or suggest you're a failure. Not only are you opening the door to serious criticism, your own thoughts of failure won't be far behind. On the other hand, even if you haven't achieved the success you hope for, spreading the positive words of success will actually help you succeed. And if that doesn't do it - think about why you left that exhausting, unchallenging, go-nowhere job, that nearly drove you into the poor house. That should shake you out of it.
